Steve
Sabella
Steve Sabella,
born in the Old City of Jerusalem, studied art photography in
Jerusalem’s School of Photography & New Media and is currently
continuing his academic education in visual arts at the State Univeristy
of New York. At a young age he started traveling in the world until he
decided to go back to Jerusalem to free himself for his artistic work.
He staged five different photo solo exhibitions of which most of them
were inaugurated in Jerusalem and continued to tour a number Palestinian
cities. Steve Sabella’s solo exhibitions were considered among the most
distinguished Palestinian art output, in addition to having been
received with critical acclaim by art critics.
He also participated in numerous international
exhibitions in Europe, Canada and the USA.
His artwork was also covered extensively by
both the local and international media which conducted dozens of radio,
television and press interviews with him.
His second
exhibition “Identity” was among one of the winners of the Young Artist
Award competition organized by A.M Qattan Foundation. Works he
photographed also won international prizes such as the “Aga Khan
Architecture Award” 2004 that was granted to the Welfare Association for
its architectural rehabilitation project carried out in the Old City of
Jerusalem.
In addition
to his status as an artist, Steve Sabella is considered to be the
foremost photographer in Palestine today. He works as an official
photographer for a number of UN organizations, governmental and non
governmental offices, and the most established Palestinian advertising
companies. His works appeared in a number of magazines and international
publications and Steve has contributed to the development of the
standard of professional photography in Palestine over the last few
years, raising the appreciation of photography to an art that deserves
wide appreciation and recognition.
